Lowell Awards 30 Scholarships to Shuar Communities in the Area of Direct Influence of the Warintza Project

December 04, 2024 - Macas, Ecuador - Lowell Mineral Exploration Ecuador S.A. ("Lowell" or the "Company"), a subsidiary of Solaris Resources Inc. ("Solaris"), is pleased to announce the award of 30 community scholarships to students from the Shuar communities of Warints and Yawi located in the area of direct influence of the Warintza Project (the “Project”), to pursue university and technical studies as part of its Warintza Education sustainable development program.

Federico Velásquez, President Latin America of Solaris, commented, "Since 2018, Solaris has awarded a total of 77 scholarships through its sustainable development programs: Soy Minera Scholarships, Amazon Mining Woman Scholarships, and Warintza Community Scholarships. We are convinced that education is the key to the sustainable development of communities. Through our scholarship programs, we are not only providing access to education, but also strengthening the future of the communities in which we operate. Today, with the delivery of 30 new community scholarships, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, diversity and professional development of young people from the Limón Indanza canton, where the Project is located."

Among the criteria for awarding the scholarships were academic excellence, student leadership, socioeconomic status, diversity and outstanding performance in the field of sports. The scholarship recipients will pursue technical studies at various universities in Ecuador in the fields of Electrical Engineering, Software Development, Nursing, Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Mining Engineering, Accounting and Auditing, Economics, Automotive Engineering, Civil Engineering, Pedagogy and Clinical Psychology.

Rebeca Illescas, Deputy Minister of Mines, commented, “The delivery of scholarships for university and technical studies by Solaris exemplifies how responsible mining can be an engine of sustainable development. This effort not only strengthens local talent and opens transformative educational opportunities, but it does so from an approach that prioritizes constant dialogue with communities, the State, and companies. "Warintza Education" Community Scholarships
Since 2018, the Warintza Community Scholarship program has contributed to the sustainable development of communities with a total of 52 scholarships awarded to date.

"Soy Minera" Scholarship Program
In 2021, the "Soy Minera" program was created to promote the participation of women in the mining sector, through scholarships that contribute to their university education with ten scholarships awarded to date.

"Amazonian Mining Woman" Scholarship
In 2022, the "Amazon Mining Woman" Scholarship was launched to empower women in the Amazon region and provide them with opportunities in mining activities with 15 scholarships awarded to date.

Angel Juank, Coordinator of the Strategic Alliance of the Warintza Project, commented, "In the past, young people in our communities faced great obstacles to fulfilling their dreams of achieving higher education. However, with the arrival of the Project and our management as leaders of the Strategic Alliance, we assumed the commitment to support the students, achieving a significant change. Thanks to this effort, today we have six professionals who are actively contributing to community development."

Benigno Tseremp, fellow from the Shuar community of Warints, commented, “I am very proud to be part of the scholarships offered by Solaris. I want to be a professional example for young people where, in the future as a civil engineer, I want to start my own business, generate jobs and contribute by designing safe and effective infrastructures."
